Connecting with the Industry

Connecting
In many ways, this is the most valuable service HBA offers, but it requires some effort on your part to get the full value.  Those who do find their investment in time pays off many times over with new ideas, new relationships and new connections that help their business grow.  Below are brief snippets that describe a variety of opportunities we provide.  We’re happy to talk to you and help you connect in the right group and the right environment for you and your company.  Many of these events are free and the rest are very low cost – we want to make it easy for you to build your business.  Just call and ask for our Member Concierge.

Membership Luncheons
Bi-monthly luncheons with an industry or elected official speaker.  Plenty of time to network and get good information from people shaping our region.  Held the second Thursday every other month. Usually around 100 or more attendees.

After Hours
Informal cocktail networking events are held at either the sponsor’s location or at the HBA bar and conference center.  Event dates vary, but are usually once every month or two on a Thursday from 5:00 – 6:30.  There is no set program, the event is free, and attendees can come and go as they please.  Usually between 50-75 per event, but some special ones have significantly more.

PRO Luncheons/Meetings
Monthly events, usually luncheons but sometimes evenings, where members of our PRO (Professional Remodelers Organization) get together, network and have an industry-related speaker.  Plenty of time for connecting with others in the remodeling industry.  Held at member host companies across the Portland region.  Usually 60-80 attend.

Regional Builder Socials/Meetings
These are held quarterly in areas across our five county territory to help members connect without having to come to our main office.  They are geared towards builders and trade contractors and provide an opportunity for members to come together, sometimes with a local building or elected official attending to listen to industry feedback and share any news that will affect the industry.  We are holding these in Yamhill County (McMinnville), Columbia County (Scappoose), and western Washington County (Forest Grove), eastern Clackamas County (Happy Valley).  We also have an affiliated Portland Infill Builders Group that meets monthly downtown.

Reverse Trade Show
This event is a “speed-dating” format event that is held twice a year.  Attendance is limited to about 24 associate members and 24 builders.  Associate members have three minutes to give a sales pitch to a builder, and then move on to the next one.  Held in our conference center, and followed by a cocktail hour and then a builders-only dinner, this event is highly rated and valued by both Associates and Builders/Remodelers as a way to make new business relationships.

Industry-Specific Forums and Groups
HBA also hosts small forums and gatherings that help members with common business interests share ideas.  These include bi-monthly Remodelers Roundtables, bi-monthly Associates Roundtables, a quarterly Production Builders Council, a quarterly Home Performance Council breakfast, and periodic Builders Forums.   Most of these are free (or cover just the cost of the meal), and attendance varies between a dozen and two dozen people.

Special Annual Events
While many of our events have social/fun built in, some are specifically designed for our members to just have fun together.  We all know that doing activities with others and creating memories is a great way to build relationships.  We offer numerous events each year – check out our annual events calendar link for exact dates.  These are all well attended, ranging from 100-200 people.  For information on our additional Signature Annual Events, click here.
